School
School in France is entirely different to school in Australia or England. For one
the schools are much stricter and are much longer. The students are also different
such as most of them catch the bus to school. In this section we will explore the
differences of English schools and French schools.
Infant School
Children can start school very early in France(as soon as they are out of their
nappies).
The first school is called Ecole Maternelle and includes reception, a year called
CP
( like year one ) and CE1 ( like year2 ). In rural areas there are often more than
one grade in a class.
Primary School
There are three years in the Ecole Primaire. These are called CE2, CM1 & CM2.
The students have a class teacher and if they are lucky they might get a specialist
teacher for music, English or art. In the south of France lots of schools teach Occitan,
the old language for the south of France.
High School
There are four years in high school in France. It is called College and the first
year of highschool is called 4th year( sixieme ).
The last year is called 3rd year( troiseme ). Everyone studies English and in the
last two
years they study Spanish as well. In high school if you don't pass your year you have
to stay back and repeat. This sometimes happens to foreigners.
